Setting up Internet sharing in Win 98se / Me

      Using  Microsoft  ICS and Remote Dialer is an easy  and economic solution to share an internet connection.

Remote Dialer will give you the ability to control dial up networking ( dial , hang up , lock , unlock ) easily , while Microsoft ICS provide a transparent  internet connection. It's mean that you don't need to  set any proxy setting in client machine.

Requirement :

Network diagram

Server setting

1. network configuration

    start menu >  setting > control panel > network >  TCP/IP ( Your LAN adapter )

    set the IP address to : 192.168.0.1 , subnet mask : 255.255.255.0 , leave DNS,

    Gateway, and the other configuration empty

2. Remote Dialer server

   a.  install Remote Dialer server

   b. make new entry   --> Remote Dialer server > main menu > file > add new entry (if necessary)

3. Install ICS (if not yet installed on your computer)

    On windows 98 se

       a. Install ICS

           start menu >  setting > control panel >add/ remove program > windows setup

           > internet tools > Internet Connection Sharing.  click here to view setting image

       b. after this Windows will restart your computer.

    On windows Me

       a. Install ICS

          start menu >  setting > control panel >add/ remove program > windows setup

          > communication > Internet Connection Sharing.  click here  to view setting image

       b. Select direct connection to my ISP and choose any entry.

       c. Enable other computer to access internet , the select LAN adapter

       d. Do not use on demand dialing

       e. Follow next step until finish than restart your computer

Client setting

1. network configuration

    start menu >  setting > control panel > network  > TCP/IP ( Your LAN adapter )

    -  set  IP address to 192.168.0.2 ,192.168.0.3 ,192.168.0.4,.......

    -  set netmask to 255.255.255.0

    -  set Gateway to    192.168.0.1

    -  set DNS to  192.168.0.1

    - leave other setting empty  restart your computer

2. Remote Dialer client

   a.  install Remote Dialer client

   b. set IP address  --> Remote Dialer client  > main menu > view > configuration > server IP address 

       set server IP address to : 192.168.0.1. click here to view setting image

       save and reconnect to server

3. Internet application

    a. Internet explorer > main menu > tools > internet options > connection > lan setting

        leave proxy setting empty.  click here to view setting image

    b. Do the same with other internet application if you already set the proxy setting

    Well you have already finished configuring your server and client, dial an entry form Remote Dialer client then

you can surf the internet from client computer. Don't forget to test other program like ICQ,  FTP, Outlook, etc
